  • A re-elected McGowan Labor Government will upgrade the Byford Skate Park
  • Works will include an extension of the skate park, 3-on-3 basketball, parkour elements, and shade and landscaping
  • Expanded facilities will provide for a safer environment with dedicated spaces

Byford’s growing youth community is set to benefit from a commitment by the McGowan Labor Government to upgrade the Byford Skate Park if re-elected in March.

The works, which will cost $800,000, will include an extension to the skate park, 3-on-3 basketball and parkour elements, and shade and landscaping.

With the current facilities catering primarily to BMX riders, scooters and skaters, young people wishing to engage in other physical activities such as basketball and parkour are missing out.

The cash injection promised by the McGowan Government will help alleviate conflict caused by different user groups wanting to use the facilities, while also providing a safer environment in which to recreate.

Comments to be attributed to Premier Mark McGowan:

“Byford is a growing community and it is important that young people have safe places in which to gather and exercise.

“The Byford Youth Precinct is already very popular with young people and families and this $800,000 expansion will ensure that the facility keeps pace with population growth.”

Comments to be attributed to WA Labor Candidate for Darling Range Hugh Jones:

“The Byford Skate Park is extremely popular with local skaters, BMX and scooter riders of all ages.

“Facilities such as the Byford Skate Park are vital for growing communities and I am delighted that a re-elected McGowan Government will provide funding to ensure our younger residents have great facilities to help them stay fit and healthy into the future.”
