- Re-elected McGowan Labor Government’s package of job-creating initiatives for the East Kimberley
- Major investment into vital services like schools and health
A re-elected McGowan Labor Government will deliver major investments into schools, health and community facilities in the East Kimberley as part of the Plan for Kimberley.
Recognising the importance of a quality education for kids in the Kimberley, a re-elected McGowan Labor Government will invest $10 million to Halls Creek District High School for new classroom blocks and a new Food and Textiles classroom as part of its commitment to investing in the jobs of the future at Kimberley schools.
A McGowan Labor Government will also see classrooms at East Kimberley College, Halls Creek District High School and Wyndham District High School transformed into science classrooms for primary school
students – providing access to modern facilities for local kids.
The McGowan Labor Government is committed to ensuring Western Australians have access to high quality healthcare regardless of where they live, and will invest $24.1 million to construct and operate a new Renal Dialysis Centre in Halls Creek.
The Renal Dialysis Centre in Halls Creek will be equipped with eight dialysis machines, catering initially for up to 32 patients operated by the Kimberley Renal Services.
A 20 bed renal hostel will also form part of the centre, as well as staff accommodation units to ensure that a proportion of the new clinical workforce likely to relocate from outside Halls Creek will have guaranteed access to suitable living facilities.
As part of its commitment to active, healthy and liveable regional communities, a re-elected McGowan Labor Government will invest $6 million towards the Kununurra Leisure Centre aquatic facility redevelopment.
This investment will be on top of the $3.2 million allocated to a new water playground at the facility, funded in 2020 through the McGowan Labor Government’s WA Recovery Plan.
A McGowan Labor Government will also invest $3.5 million for the Halls Creek Town Development, including a splash park, pedestrian crossing points, community parkland spaces, street furniture and shade structures.
In the East Kimberley, the Plan for Kimberley also includes:
- $2.35 million for upgrades to basketball courts, multi-sport field and lighting and Warmun Community
- Modified parking for cars and busses at St Joseph’s School and improved drainage and pedestrian facilities on St Peters Way in Wyndham
- Widening and improving the intersection of Weaber Plain Road and Mulligans Lagoon Road in Kununurra
Construction of each of these projects will build on the pipeline of work in the Kimberley under the McGowan Labor Government, delivering local jobs right across the region.
The Plan for Kimberley includes countless additional commitments to ensure Kimberley remains strong, long into the future. To read the full plan, visit www.markmcgowan.com.au
