  • Re-elected McGowan Government to upgrade and redevelop the Boongarup Pool recreation site in Walyunga National Park
  • Works to be carried out in partnership with Traditional Owners, supporting local jobs and Aboriginal business development opportunities
  • $2 million commitment part of a $217 million package to support WA tourism businesses and local jobs

A re-elected McGowan Labor Government will invest $2 million to redevelop the Boongarup Pool recreation site in Walyunga National Park.

The upgrade and redevelopment will be delivered in partnership with the Traditional Owners, supporting Aboriginal employment and business development opportunities.

If re-elected, the McGowan Labor Government will undertake planning on the scope of the works after the recent Wooroloo fire caused much damage in Walyunga National Park.

This election commitment is part of a $217 million package to support and grow tourism in WA to ensure the sector can recover from the pandemic stronger than ever.

The comprehensive tourism package would provide funding certainty and new tourism offerings to help grow domestic tourism and prepare WA for international tourism opportunities, when possible in a COVID safe environment.

This package builds on the McGowan Government’s investment of more than $150 million in tourism through the WA Recovery and Jobs Plan.

“It will provide funding certainty to enable the industry to capitalise on domestic tourism opportunities and prepare for international tourism opportunities, when possible in a COVID safe environment.

Comments attributed to Swan Hills MLA Jessica Shaw:

“Boongarup Pool is a fantastic picnic spot for locals and visitors but is currently inaccessible due to the damage caused by the Wooroloo fire.

“If re-elected a McGowan Government will provide $2 million to redevelop the area to ensure this idyllic spot in Walyunga National Park can continue to be enjoyed for years to come.

“Working in partnership with the Traditional Owners will ensure the works are respectful of the sites rich cultural history and will deliver Aboriginal employment and business opportunities.”
