- Re-elected McGowan Labor Government will invest $7.5 million to improve access to the Oakajee Strategic Industrial Area
- Funding to construct access roads into the industrial area
- 65 expressions of interest received to produce and export renewable hydrogen at Oakajee
A re-elected McGowan Labor Government will assist development of the Oakajee Strategic Industrial Area into a globally competitive renewable hydrogen precinct, committing $7.5 million towards important road infrastructure at the site.
The McGowan Labor Government’s global expression of interest process to develop the greenfields Oakajee SIA received 65 applicants, which are currently under assessment.
The $7.5 million commitment will deliver a safe intersection at North West Coastal Highway and the central access road into the Oakajee SIA, and a north-south spine road within the SIA.
As a greenfields site, constructing road infrastructure will help to fast-track development at Oakajee, creating local jobs in Geraldton.
Located 23 kilometres north of Geraldton, Oakajee SIA is recognised for its world-class wind and solar energy potential, which is ideal for the production of renewable hydrogen for domestic and commercial use, advanced manufacturing and export.
Oakajee SIA is connected to the State’s major road network and existing Geraldton Port via the North West Coastal Highway, and provisions are in place for the area to be linked into WA’s gas network.
